Carrie Underwood’s heartfelt new song Something in the Water finally has a video and it features the wunderkinds of Shaping Sound Dance Co, the Contemporary/Jazz dance troupe formed by SYTYCD fan faves Travis Wall and Nick Lazzarini with their close friends Teddy Forance and Kyle Robinson. I’ve been a fan from the very start and even watched the sole season of their Oxygen reality series All The Right Moves. It’s heartening seeing a repertory of dancers break into the mainstream, a great step for the art-form.
The video follows the song’s spiritual theme of Baptism. The dancers perform around Underwood on a stage filled ankle-deep in water under drizzling rain. A choir joins in midway. Wall’s choreography fits perfectly with the track. Extra props to director Raj Kapoor and the lighting department!
Given Carrie Underwood’s successful track record, this song is bound to be another Country hit and would be great for Shaping Sound’s already flourishing career that includes an Emmy nomination for this piece and a current national tour.
